Capsular Contracture title

Removal of abnormally placed implants or treatment of capsular contracture.

This condition occurs to some degree in 10% of all breast implants. If severe, surgery is required for repair. First ask yourself, do you need the implants at all? If not, then the surest way to avoid recurrent of the contracture is to remove the implant. If yes, and the implant is critical for you to maintain a breast size you like, then first make sure that the implant is under the muscle.

The risk of contracture is lower for submuscular implants. Consider decreasing the size of the implant, especially if the implant is over 350cc. Finally, remember that it is difficult to determine how droopy a breast is that has capsular contracture, since the contracture gives the breast a lift. It is not uncommon to fix a capsular contracture, and find out that you have droopy breasts. This is difficult to plan for during the first surgery, and unless the droop is obvious, and it may need to be fixed at a later surgery.
