Tummy Tuck title

Abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck," is surgery to remove excess skin and fat of the abdomen.

There are two types of this procedure: mini-abdominoplasty and the regular, full abdominoplasty.

Actual patient images are shown below. Click to enlarge.

Mini-Abdominoplasty
The mini-abdominoplasty is for abdomens with minimal excess skin -- a small amount of skin is removed, and liposuction is usually performed at the same time.

Full Abdominoplasty
The full abdominoplasty is for abdomens with more excess skin. If you can pinch all the skin between your belly button and your bikini line and pull it away from your body, it is likely you will need a full abdominoplasty. If you have a significant amount of skin actually hanging over the top of your bikini line, you will also need the full abdominoplasty. Some liposuction can be performed on the love handles during the full abdominoplasty, but it is unsafe to do a substantial amount of central abdominal liposuction at the same time as an abdominoplasty.

With the full abdominoplasty, you will also have a scar around your belly button. In a mini-abdominoplasty, the belly button is not altered.
