Wrinkles and skin laxity are a problem for most people as they age. Starting in our mid-twenties, our bodies start to break down our natural elastin and slow down the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, which are the building blocks that keep our skin firm and smooth. Luckily, we now have Profound, a new energy-based facial and body treatment.
Profound reduces the signs of aging by helping the body to create new elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. In studies, Profound treatments had a 100% response rate for wrinkles and a 95% response rate for skin laxity.
Profound addresses and reduces the appearance of several skin problems, including:
Profound works by helping the skin to build collagen and elastin. Profound heats the skin to an exact temperature and depth for an exact amount of time, delivering precise energy to the deeper skin layers, where it is most beneficial. No surgery, no injectables; just your body’s own collagen and elastin to help you turn back the clock on aging.
Profound can be done in our office under local anesthesia or in the operating room under general anesthesia. The treatment itself usually takes forty-five minutes to one hour. Your provider uses the treatment head to deliver heat to the deep layers of skin, where it is most beneficial. We can use a direct stream of cool air to help keep the treatment area comfortable, if you are awake for the procedure.
Patients can expect to see their best result from Profound treatment approximately three months after the date of their procedure. The results last indefinitely; the hands of time are effectively set back. We can’t stop the aging process all together but we can push back the point from which it starts.
The expected downtime after Profound is seven to ten days. The expected healing sequence and expected side effects include redness, swelling, bruising, light discomfort, and possibly small bumps and pinpoint bleeding.
You will need to wash the treated area twice a day with a mild cleanser and avoid harsh cleansers and washcloths until the skin has healed. You will also need to apply a thin coat of healing moisturizer two to four times a day until the skin has healed. We suggest that you sleep with your head elevated for the first forty-eight hours after treatment in order to minimize swelling.
To optimize results, use a broad spectrum sunblock of SPF 30+ for at least one month after the procedure. In most cases you can begin using makeup forty-eight hours after your procedure. If you use topical acids, retinols, retin-A, etc., you will need to wait at least seven days after your treatment to resume your regular skincare regimen.
