Overview

You probably noticed it in a photo first. Your hairline sits a little higher than it used to, or the light catches the top of your head in a way it never did before.

Fortunately, something can be done. A hair transplant in Beverly Hills moves healthy hair from the back and sides of your head to the areas that have thinned. Because it is your own hair, it grows, and it stays.

That said, more hair is not the goal. Our approach to Beverly Hills hair restoration emphasizes natural results, so you look like yourself, only with the hairline you remember.

Not ready for surgery?

If your thinning is still early, non-surgical hair restoration in Beverly Hills, such as PRP, can slow it down and thicken the hair you have. Results are more subtle and need upkeep, but there are no incisions and no downtime.

Who it's for

The right candidate.

A hair transplant works well for many people, but not for everyone. In general, the best results come to:

  • Men and women whose hair loss has slowed or settled
  • Patients with a receding, uneven, or naturally high hairline
  • Patients with thinning at the crown
  • Patients with enough healthy hair at the back and sides of the head
  • Patients who lost hair to scarring, tight hairstyles, or a previous surgery
  • Patients who want a natural, lasting result and understand that a transplant moves hair and does not create new hair

Not sure where you fit? That is what the consultation is for. We examine your scalp and tell you honestly whether surgery makes sense for you yet.

Technique

How it's done.

Every hair transplant follows the same idea. First, healthy hair is taken from the back or sides of your head in small natural groups of one to four hairs, called grafts. Then, each graft is placed where your hair has thinned.

What changes from one patient to the next is how those grafts are collected. There are two ways to do it, and your surgeon will advise you on which is best for you, depending on your needs and goals.

FUE Hair Transplant

With FUE, grafts are taken one at a time. Because each one is so small, there is no long scar. Instead, you are left with tiny dots that are hidden once your hair grows back in, even if you wear it short.

For this reason, FUE is a good fit if you like a close haircut or want the quickest return to your routine.

FUT (Strip) Hair Transplant

With FUT, a thin strip of skin with hair is taken from the back of your head, and the grafts are separated from it by hand. As a result, more grafts can be moved in a single visit.

The trade-off is a fine line where the strip was taken. However, it sits low at the back of your head and is covered by the hair above it. Because of this, FUT often suits patients who need more coverage and wear their hair a little longer.

Hairline, Crown, Beard and Eyebrow

Where the grafts go matters just as much as how they are collected. In fact, each area is planned differently.

Hairline. This is the part people see first. So, grafts are placed at the angle your hair grows naturally, which avoids a straight, obvious line.

Crown. The crown takes more grafts to look full, and it can keep thinning. That is why we plan for the years ahead, not only for today.

Beard. The same grafts can also fill patchy areas of a beard.

Eyebrow. Here, single hairs are placed to follow the natural shape of your brow.

What to expect

From consultation to recovery.

Knowing what happens, and when, makes the whole process easier. Here is how a Beverly Hills hair transplant with our team unfolds, step by step.

Before Surgery

  1. Consultation. We examine your scalp, check how much healthy hair you have to work with, and draw your new hairline with you.
  2. Pre-op. You receive clear instructions on what to pause and what to arrange for the day.

During Surgery

  1. Anesthesia. Local anesthesia numbs your scalp, so you stay awake and comfortable.
  2. Collecting the grafts. Healthy hair is taken from the back or sides of your head.
  3. Placing the grafts. Each graft is set at the angle your hair grows naturally.

After Surgery

  1. Going home. You leave the same day with written aftercare instructions.
  2. Recovery. Small scabs and mild swelling settle within the first week. Most patients return to desk work in a few days.

Growth Timeline

After that, patience matters, because new hair grows in stages.

  • Week 1. The grafts settle in.
  • Weeks 2 to 8. The transplanted hairs fall out. This is normal, and it does not mean the transplant failed. The roots stay in place.
  • Months 3 to 4. New hair starts to grow. It is fine at first, then it thickens.
  • Months 6 to 12. Your result fills in. Most patients see it between six and nine months. For some, it takes a full year.

“Dr Cassileth and her amazing staff, office, and colleagues are outstanding. I spent over a decade trying to accept a body with scars and extra skin. There was no pressure to go forward with surgery, she gave less Invasive options, and answers all questions. The surgery, anesthesiologist, abs nursing staff at the surgery center were also amazing. Plastic surgery is a big decision and everyone should get this amazing care.”

Cost & insurance

Read about coverage & financing →

Cost is usually the first question, and it deserves a straight answer. No two patients need the same amount of work, so every hair transplant is quoted individually. In general, three things decide the figure.

Grafts needed. The more area you want covered, the more grafts it takes. For example, refining a hairline costs far less than filling a crown.

Technique. FUE and FUT are priced differently, because the work involved is different.

Number of visits. Most plans are done in one visit. However, larger plans are sometimes split in two.

After your consultation, you receive a written quote, so there are no surprises later.

As for insurance, a hair transplant is considered cosmetic and not covered. However, hair loss caused by scarring, burns, or an injury is sometimes reviewed differently, so ask us to check. In addition, financing is available through CareCredit, Alphaeon Credit, and Cherry.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much does a hair transplant cost in Beverly Hills?

It depends on how many grafts you need, which technique is used, and whether the work is done in one visit or two. For example, refining a hairline costs far less than filling a crown. After your consultation, you receive a written quote, and financing is available.

Is a hair transplant permanent?

Yes. The hair is taken from the back and sides of your head, where it is not affected by the usual pattern of hair loss. As a result, it keeps growing after it is moved. However, the hair you already had can still thin over time, which is why we plan ahead and may recommend medication to protect it.

Does a hair transplant hurt?

Most patients are surprised by how comfortable it is. Your scalp is numbed with local anesthesia first, so you feel pressure, not pain. Afterward, you can expect some soreness, tightness, and mild swelling for a few days. In most cases, the medication we send you home with is enough to manage it.

How long does it take to recover and see results?

Recovery is quick, but results take patience. Most patients are back at desk work within a few days to a week. Then, between two and eight weeks, the transplanted hairs fall out, which is normal. After that, new hair starts to grow at around three to four months. Most patients see their result between six and nine months, and for some it takes a full year.

Do hair transplants work on the crown?

Yes, the crown can be treated. However, it takes more grafts than the hairline to look full, and it often keeps thinning over time. For this reason, we look at how much healthy hair you have and how your hair loss is likely to progress before recommending it. In many cases, we treat the hairline first.

Can women get a hair transplant?

Yes. Women with thinning in one area, a naturally high hairline, or hair lost to tight hairstyles or scarring can be good candidates. On the other hand, thinning that is spread evenly across the whole scalp is harder to treat with surgery. That is why we start with a scalp exam to find the cause first.

Does insurance cover a hair transplant?

In most cases, no. A hair transplant is considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance. However, hair loss caused by burns, an injury, or surgical scarring is sometimes reviewed differently, so ask us to check. In addition, we accept CareCredit, Alphaeon Credit, and Cherry.
